Proper cat care is important if you want your feline friend to live long and prosper. Caring for cats involves different aspects so there are different things for you to keep in mind. One of the most important aspects of cat care you will have to be mindful of though has to do with how and what you feed your cat.

For the most part, cats are carnivorous. They are hunters by nature and will generally be predisposed to eating meat. There are also certain nutrients that your cats need that can be only found in meat, one of which is taurine, an amino acid. Without taurine, cats may become blind and develop enlarged hearts that will lead to premature death. Cats also need vitamin A and the fatty acid known as arachidonic acid that can only be found in meats. But while your feline friend is predisposed to eating meat, this does not mean that you have to give your cat raw meat to eat.

If you’re ever tempted to feed your cat dog food, stop right there. Remember in cat care that cats have different needs from dogs that is why it is never a good idea to feed your cat dog food. Also, don’t be surprised when your cats munch on things from your garden because this will help their digestion. That is unless they are munching on your prized orchids or you have houseplants that may be poisonous to cats. As for the issue of feeding your cat people food, it shouldn’t cause any trouble when done from time to time. The only real problem you’ll have is that they might not be getting the nutrients they need compared to what specially-formulated cat food can offer. Nevertheless, a few tidbits here and there shouldn’t hurt. As for treats, make sure you don’t give one to your cat too often in a day because this might lead to weight gain over time.

Cat care concerns about feeding must also focus on the importance of ensuring that your cat gets enough water everyday, with the general rule that your cat needs to consume about two quarts of water each week or an ounce of water for every pound of weight each day. Apart from drinking actual water, your cat can address its water needs though through the food it eats. The wetter the cat food, the less a cat needs to drink actual water. Dehydration is a serious problem so it must be avoided at any cost. Just water loss of between 10% and 15% in the body can kill a cat.

Dogs are not the only delightful pet that you can have. Cats are one of the favorite domestic pets too. Some people adopt cats and some buy cats from pet store. But adopting or buying cats is not that easy because you need to know which one you really want. There are various types of cats and they vary in gender, age, price and breed. Some cats are hairy and some are not, some are big and some are cute, some are easy maintenance and some are high maintenance. Do you want a kitten or do you want an adult cat? Having a cat is like having a baby because you need to take care of them. Be sure that you have read some cat care tips before having one. Here are some of them:

Cat care includes bathing, feeding and grooming. You may be surprised because normally cats do not require bathing because they can clean their body on their own. But you may want to do so for hygienic purposes and to avoid germs. You can ask someone to assist you if this will be your first time to bathe your cat. Hold the cat and quickly lather the head, ears, neck and body. Remove any fleas if there is any and to stay away from colds, keep the cat inside after bathing.

Do not give any bones or dog foods to a cat, they differ when it comes to food. Gradually change their diet if you plan to change it because it may affect their system. Keep your cat hydrated by filling their bowl with fresh water especially during hot season. You can serve dry and moist food to cats but if there are leftover moist foods, refrigerate it. Cats need proper grooming too, especially those hairy cats especially if you do not want to see fur all over your house. Brush their fur to avoid and remove tangles. Trim the cat’s claws and clean their ears too. Brush their teeth regularly.

Visiting veterinarian is very important in cat care. This is to avoid sickness and to ensure that you pet is strong and in good health. Be sure that your cats have proper vaccination and medication. Cats should be treated every year with heart worm pill. If your cat is clean and healthy, your family will be protected from possible infections and diseases. The best cat care tip is to take care and love them.

You may think that a cat carrier is not necessary to have but the truth is it is really important to have one if you need to transport your cat from one place to another. Whether in veterinary clinic or air travel or just about any place, you would need a carrier. It is much better to use a cat carrier than using a cardboard box, pillow case, jacket or towel to restrain them. Having a loose cat is not safe and not advisable so it is really important to include a carrier in your must have cat supplies.

It is a good thing to know that more cat owners start to realize and understand the importance of cat carrier that is why it is also becoming popular. As a result there are more designs and styles that you can choose from nowadays. You can find them in pet stores or online pet stores. There are different types of cat carriers. It may be a soft carrier, cardboard carrier and hard carrier. Cardboard carrier is not advisable because it is not strong and can break easily but it can be used for emergency purpose. Soft carriers are good especially if you have many cat pets, it will help you to save storage space. Hard carrier is bulky but it is easier to wash when there is an accident.

Here are some things that you need to consider when choosing a cat carrier. Cat carriers should be durable and strong so it will not fall apart during transport. It should be easy to clean. It should be large enough to accommodate your pet and check if it complies with airlines regulations especially if you go on air travel a lot. Air travel cat carrier should be well ventilated, water proof, lightweight and durable. Not all cat carriers are approved by airlines so before buying one, call the airlines to check their approved brand. Check if there is food and water storage, it is very important especially for long travel or waiting period.

A cat carrier is designed for one cat but if you need to transport two or more, be sure that you have large carrier but this is only for a short trip. Like cat beds, introduce and train your cat to use the carrier so if the time comes that you need to place your cat in the carrier, it will not be difficult and you will avoid possible delays.

One of the major pictures we have of a cat is that he or she is sitting comfortably under the sun, grooming himself or herself. This consists of a very thorough ritual that a cat can do several times in one day. When they groom themselves, they lick themselves clean in the toes, the eyes, the ears and their coat. When they do this, they remove the loose hairs about their body. Even if your pet does this pretty well on his own, you’re still going to have to do a bit of cat grooming for him. This is most especially so if your cat is still young, is an older cat or if he or she has long hair.

If you’re thinking about cat grooming, you might be thinking, how do I go about that? Well, think of how your cat grooms himself. You have to start slowly if you want to help your cat groom himself. You might have a cat who doesn’t like to be touched. If you start slow, you’ll find out what your cat’s touch tolerance is. If you’re grooming your cat for the first time, you have to do it start slowly and also keep the grooming short. Gradually, you can extend these sessions and your cat will grow accustomed to the daily ritual.

You have to have a few supplies when you’re going to do cat grooming. The most important piece is the brush. If you brush your cat’s fur regularly, you help him or her avoid getting hair balls. When cats lick themselves, they’re actually cleaning the fur off loose hair. The tendency is to swallow this fur. If you brush your cat, there will be less fur to cough up in the future. When you’re brushing your cat, brush in the direction your cat’s hair grows.

As for cat grooming related to general care, you have to treat your grooming sessions with your cat as a physical examination. Check the whole of your cats body when you’re grooming him. Give your cat a bit of a massage while you’re at it. If your cat’s nails are long, you can trim them using a nail trimmer. If you’re doing this for the first time, you might need a friend to hold your cat for you. He might get a little frisky and squirmy. Remember that if you’re going to groom your cat, keep it at a regular schedule and do it at least three times a week.

Having a pet like dog or cat is not easy. It is like having your own baby or child that you need to take care off. You need to feed, bathe and groom your pets. Proper attention should be given to them and of course you need to stock cat supplies like food, toiletries, grooming kit and other supplies that will give comfort to your cat.

If you are planning to buy of adopt a cat, here are the must have or essential cat supplies that you should have. First is the cat food, be sure that you have cat food on hand upon arriving in your place, kitten needs a special food while adult cats can have either a moist food or dry food. Always remember that bones and dog food are not cat foods, so be sure to serve the food that is appropriate for cats. Second essential cat supplies are feeding dishes. Use or buy a separate dish for your cat. Get a bowl for his food and separate for drinks. There are several choices in the market but make sure that the bowl is clean, scratch proof and heavy. Stainless steel bowl is the best choice.

Third is the bed, some say that a cat bed is not necessary because cats can sleep anywhere and they are not like dogs that sleep in one place. But for me, cat bed is essential if you do not want your cat to sleep with your bed or furniture. It is a matter of persuading and training your cats to sleep on their own bed. Patience is needed. Fourth essential cat supplies are cat litter and cat tray, it is necessary if you adopt or buy a kitten because they will not be able to go out while young. Always choose the bigger size when buying.

Other supplies that are essential are shampoo and comb, to keep your cat clean. Nail cutter to trim the nails of the cat. Buy a cat collar where you can put your name and contact number just in case you lost your cat and so the founder can contact you. Cat toys are also essential because it stimulates the cat. Cats love to play yarn and string. A cat carrier is also important because from time to time you need to transport your cat from your home to the veterinary clinic. These cat supplies are readily available in the market or you can order it online.

If you have a cat as a pet, nothing can be more destructive than its claws. Claws however are natural to cats and it’s actually up to you and how you take care of your cat if you’re going to declaw your cat. There are always two sides to the story of declawing cats. If you train your cat well enough, your pet can be the most behaved cat in the world. In this case, you have to provide your cat with something to scratch on because as was mentioned previously, claws and clawing are natural to cats.

If you get your cat a scratching post, that’s enough to deter him or her from scratching other things like curtains and furniture, and then you’re okay. Train your cat to scratch on a scratching post. You see the scratching actually gives the cats a good stretch. It’s good for their back and for their shoulders. With scratching, they also are maintaining their claws so they can use them for climbing, pouncing, defending themselves, and so on. You can forgo declawing cats if you know how to train your cat to scratch only at the scratching post using consistency as well as repetition.

On the other hand, if it’s not in you to train your cat not to scratch and you think that your cat might pose a danger to you or to small members of your family, you can get your cat declawed. As a little note, when you start declawing cats, it’s not going to help them stop scratching if they’re stressed and have emotional problems. Scratching is basically a sign of the cat having underlying problems. If the scratching continues on, you might like to bring your cat to the vet to see what your cat’s problem is.

Declawing cats can be something that’s very important to you. There are some people who think that it’s only with declawing their cats that they can ensure a satisfactory relationship with their pet. If you’re worried about your cat being unable to climb trees or defend himself or herself if declawed, they can still do all these without the claws. Remember though that not all cats need declawing. It’s only when your cat is very destructive that you can opt for this procedure. In every other kind of situation, a good dose of consistency and repetition is enough to get your cat scratching only on the scratching post.

Cat neutering can put an end to the birth of unwanted animals that may end up being euthanized in pet shelters. It will also protect your kittens health, stop him from developing aggressive behavior, and protect him from various reproductive diseases. Aside from increasing your pets life expectancy, it will also make him feel more contented and happier with his condition.

The need to take care of your cat after his operation is another issue. Once you have learned what to expect after neutering, you can easily deal with what your pet will need during his recovery period. Here are some of the things you need to remember while caring for your feline friend after cat neutering.

Bring your cat home

After surgery, you have to bring home your cat as soon as possible. Since cats usually experience a lot of stress when they are riding in the car, this can get in the way of their speed recovery. You can stop this from happening by finding a nearby pet clinic and minimizing the travel time to your home.

Deal with odd behavior

The anesthesia will continue to expect your cats behavior for the next twelve to eighteen hours after the surgery. Your cat may exhibit lack or coordination in his movements, grogginess, and excessive sleeping. As his owner, you have the responsibility to give him all the support he needs and understand the way he will act after cat neutering.

Allow him to rest

Your cat needs a lot of rest after the surgery. Place him in the peaceful location you can find and keep him away from your children and other pets. Since he is in pain, he may start lashing out even if he is normally friendly. In fact, cats have increased chances of biting and fighting with other cats after undergoing neutering and spaying or other surgical operations. By keeping him isolated, you can eliminate this risk and prevent him from getting into fights.

Feed him right

Spayed or neutered cats can lose their appetite during their surgery. If he refuses to eat within the night of his surgery, you have no need to worry. This is a normal response so you do not have to force him to eat after cat neutering. The anesthesia may also continue making him feel nauseous the following day so it is best to wait until he regains his normal appetite.

Keep him indoors

Stop your cat from playing outdoors until you return to the clinic to have his stitches removed. After ten to fourteen days, you can already visit the veterinarian and ask him to work on your cats stitches.

When your cat is indoors, he will have greater chances of feeling bored. This will make him want to lick or chew on his incision site. Chewing and licking can cause infections or force his incisions open. You can prevent this from happening by distracting your cat with your attention, some toys, and delicious treats. A plastic e-collar will also prevent your cat from chewing or licking on his fur.

Do not forget to watch out for cat problems after the operation. As long as you are willing to understand how your cat feels after post-operative surgery, you can easily give him the attention and love he deserves after cat neutering.

It can be very heartbreaking to see a little orphan kitten lost along a road, and chances are, you’d be most likely to take them home and care for them. The beauty of human nature is that anything small and furry instantly equates to a potential best friend. People just cannot resist caring for a kitten, for vulnerable little creatures seem to hit directly at our soft spots. Caring for newborn kittens can be a great task, but can be very rewarding once you’ve successfully made them grow to a healthy, ripe, adult age. If you have no idea what caring for kittens involves, then here are some tips on just how.

Caring for kittens can be a joyous task, but if your kitten is host to a number of diseases, you’re risking your life as well your family’s. Before doing anything else, it is compulsory to take your kitten to a professional veterinarian for examination. The kitten may have a series of health problems that need addressing before you can finally care for her. Once the veterinarian clears the kitten for any sign of sickness or heath problems, you may now take the kitten home.

Caring for cats is different from caring for kittens. Cats may sleep just about anywhere, but kittens need constant exposure to warmth to survive. You need to build a sleeping quarter for you kitten by utilizing a cardboard box if you have no cat bed. To generate heat, place a heat pad below the rag the kitten will sleep on. Try adding a stuffed animal beside her to recreate the feel of a mother or a brother. Kittens usually sleep cuddled together, which is exactly why kittens love tight spaces.

Caring for kittens is more than just giving her a place to stay. Feeding is another thing you must consider. Without a mother, your kitten will not have her usual supply of nutrients. Kitten food such as formulas may be available in your local pet store. These formulas are a great alternative to mothers milk. Purchase a feeding bottle for your kittens, and don’t forget to sterilize it before and after the feeding process. A sanitized eye dropper can also be used as a feeding bottle.

A mother cat frequently licks her children clean, and you can recreate this by moistening a towel with warm water. Carefully stroke the fur of the kitten making sure it is clean. Do not forget to stroke the kittens area to promote urination.

In time, caring for kittens may require the introduction of solid food. Hard food may be introduced to the kitten at six weeks of age. To give the kitten an easier time eating, moisten her food with some water.

Caring for kittens require more than just giving her the things she needs. You need to be able to provide her with physical affection and lots of love. Pet your kitten occasionally, and don’t forget to allow others to stroke her fur too!

Whether you have a dog or a cat, it is important for you clean everything that they have used or have stayed in. Even your most well-trained pet cats and dogs can still make quite a mess from time to time. This is why cat cages, for instance, need to be cleaned regularly. A cat’s cage can be the breeding ground for the worst germs. Without the proper cleaning, you are not only endangering the condition of your cat, but also the people who regularly come in contact with him.

Cleaning a cat cage is just like cleaning any other animal cage. The difference though, lies in the size and the kind of dirt that you will see in it. Cat cages tend to have a lot more hair attached to it, as well as some grimy excrements residing underneath. But no matter what you may find in the cat cage, it is still essential that you take the time to clean it up.

The probability of a cat cage to be infested by dirt, germs and grime are not as high compared to other animal cages. Since cats are mostly left outside, the cage is only used when someone wants to bring their pets along with them on trips. But when the cat is in the cage, there are times when they will have to excrete some wastes. So for such, the most important thing to do with regards to cleaning the cat cage is to disinfect the waste collector underneath.

Before anything else though, you need to prepare all the necessary cleaning tools. A regular cleaning brush will do, but if you have something smaller for the cat cage grills, then that would be helpful. You can use disinfectants as your main cleaning liquid just as long as it won’t have a strong lingering scent. There are certain bacteria left over in cat excrements that cannot be cleaning by regular liquids. Just to be sure, a cage cleaning detergent can come in handy though it can be costly.

Disassemble the cage before you start cleaning it. Remove all the cat enclosures and then clean them separately. This way, you get to reach all the spots without leaving anything dirty. Brush everything thoroughly. But be careful not to do it too hard. The cage grills can be easily bent if too much force is applied. After soaping it, rinse it with water. Make sure that all the bubbles are removed already. Any soapy areas left can be a cause of concern, as germs may not have been removed immediately in such areas. After rinsing, dry each part of the cage with a towel. Then if possible, dry the parts of the cage under the sun. This is important as sunlight can kill off any of the remaining germs that may reside on the cage. After confirming that the cage is completely dry, then you can put it back together.

Caring for a cat can be a complicated thing, to the point that they can be considered as high maintenance. You need to understand cat behavior in order to be able to understand your cat, and you need to always take into account the feline symptoms that could mean serious diseases. Cat vomiting in a sick cat that is more advanced in years is actually quite common, as geriatric cats have systems that are already beginning to fail, hence the upchuck reflex. The cause can be anything from chronic renal failure, an overactive thyroid gland, liver disease, an electrolyte or acid imbalance, or anything that could be causing stomach problems.

However, that does not mean that if your cat vomits once or twice a week that it is dying. A lot of healthy cats will vomit once or twice a week. Sometimes, the cat vomiting may just really be your cat regurgitating the food that it just ate. This happens in cats that may have eaten too fast, or maybe because your cat may be on a diet of mainly dry food. This is because the dry food will immediately absorb whatever moisture it will meet in the stomach, making the stomach expand too quickly and making your cat vomit. This can be taken care of right away, as you can just make it a habit to include moisture into your cats diet.

One of the more common reasons for cat vomiting is also the presence of many kinds of bacteria in the stomach. These bacteria may live in the intestines, or maybe worms that live in the various parts of the body such as tapeworms and or roundworms. If you find that your cat is presenting symptoms other than the cat vomitingsuch as diarrhea, lethargy, or an abnormally expanded stomach, then there is a large chance that your cat is suffering from a bacteria or a worm.

When a cat is at that age where it is already considered geriatric, usually ages over 12 years old, cat health can decline really quickly. If you notice that your cat seems to be vomiting more and more, then you need to take your cat to the veterinarian right away. One of the most common reasons that this happens is because of inflammatory bowel disease. The cause of this disease in cats is thus far unknown, but the food that your cat is eating and the way his insides reacts to it is definitely has a correlation to the disease. If this is left untreated, your cats digestive tract can become permanently damaged, and not to mention the damage that the constant vomiting will do to your cats throat and stomach as well.

Just remember that when any animal is older, they are more prone do lethal diseases. Cats are no different. Make sure that you prioritize your cats health when your cat is already in this age. That way, you can try and keep them healthy for as long as possible.
